With the NBA Finals wrapping up soon, what is the biggest offseason fear for the Atlanta Hawks?

Coming into the summer of 2024, the Atlanta Hawks find themselves in a very interesting position. During the NBA Draft Lottery, the Hawks were shockingly awarded the first overall pick in the draft.

This surprise might have changed a lot of plans for the Hawks, as we were seeing rumors starting to swirl about Trae Young possibly being on the trade block. While that might still be the case, the Hawks have an excellent asset in the first overall pick.

With that being said, Bleacher Report recently listed the biggest offseason fear for each team in the NBA. For the Atlanta Hawks, it was that the 2024 NBA Draft turned into what the 2013 NBA Draft produced. Here’s what they had to say.

Atlanta still has a lot to figure out this summer with the Trae Young-Dejounte Murray backcourt, Saddiq Bey’s free agency, and a roster that’s headed toward the luxury tax next season. Missing on the No. 1 pick and enduring an Anthony Bennett situation should be the team’s biggest fear, however.

The 2024 Draft turning into the 2013 Draft for the Hawks would be a nightmare. With no disrespect to Anthony Bennett, he was one of the biggest busts as a first-overall pick. Missing on a pick like that can hamper a franchise for years to come, as we saw some tough years for the Cleveland Cavaliers before LeBron James came back. With the Hawks already being in a tricky spot, they need to draft someone who is going to help them in both the near and long term.

With a few different options as of now with the first overall pick, we might not know until the Atlanta Hawks are on the clock with who they will take. However, for the franchise, they have to hope that it’s not a situation like the Cavaliers had to deal with in 2013.
