The Astros announced their lineup with Altuve batting fifth and playing second base, a sign that the organization feels he is ready to contribute immediately.

Altuve’s production this season has been solid if not spectacular. He is hitting .240 with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs while posting a .695 OPS.
Though no longer the consistent MVP-caliber force of earlier years, the longtime Astros star remains a valuable presence in the middle of the order and a steady influence in the clubhouse. His return strengthens a lineup that already features Yordan Alvarez, Isaac Paredes, and others capable of producing runs.
The series also carries weight for Seattle. The Mariners have endured a disappointing 2026 campaign after a deep playoff run the previous year. Offensive inconsistency has plagued the club, and catcher Cal Raleigh has been among the most visible underperformers.
Raleigh is hitting just .159 with a .267 on-base percentage despite 12 home runs and 43 RBIs. He recently accepted significant responsibility for the team’s struggles, telling reporters that the poor play starts with him and that the club must find a way to compete more effectively in every phase of the game.
Manager Dan Wilson’s future has already become a topic of conversation in Seattle as the season continues to slip away. While time remains for a turnaround, the urgency is increasing with each series. Facing a first-place Houston team that has Altuve back in the fold will not make the task any easier.
For the Astros, the immediate focus is simpler: capitalize on their division lead and get production from a healthy Altuve as they navigate the remaining stretch of the regular season.
