As the New York Yankees get ready for the playoff push, who would be the best addition for them before the trade deadline?

It has been a great start to the season for the New York Yankees. After a busy offseason, the Yankees are poised and aiming to be a World Series contender once again this season. While the Yankees have been playing well, they do have some issues to address before the trade deadline.

Recently, ESPN spoke about who would be a perfect addition for them before the trade deadline. Here’s what they had to say.

Weakness: Infield, bullpen

Best match: Tanner Scott

This might not be what Yankees fans want to hear, but the headliner moves just don’t make a ton of sense. A trade for Guerrero would be fun. Same with one that sends Pete Alonso across the Triborough Bridge. Likewise acquiring uber-reliever Mason Miller from Oakland. All are long shots for different reasons. Guerrero has said publicly he never wants to play for the Yankees, and Toronto loathes the notion of seeing him in division games for another year. Alonso going crosstown — even months before he hits free agency — would require an overpriced return to mitigate the grief of actively choosing to send a franchise icon to an in-town rival. And the acquisition cost for Miller is astronomical.

With the Yankees likely to be buyers at the trade deadline, there have been plenty of names linked to them. Since the Yankees are a big market team, they have been linked to big names like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Pete Alonso, and Mason Miller.

While any of those players would be a massive splash, they might not be the most realistic targets. With the bullpen being a need for the New York Yankees and always a good thing to have in the playoffs, Scott would be a nice addition.

Scott is having an excellent season for the Marlins with an ERA under 2.00 and nine saves. Being a lefty also will give the Yankees some more flexibility with matchups come October. With the New York Yankees looking like they are in win-now mode, expect them to be very aggressive in the trade market.
