There have been a ton of New York Knicks rumors in recent weeks. Since getting eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in the second round, attention has turned to the roster can be upgraded this offseason.

Retaining their free agents is the first step. Re-signing Isaiah Hartenstein and OG Anunoby would make this offseason a success. Using the mid-level exception to find another shot creator for the bench, preferably in the backcourt, would be ideal as well.

Alas, most of the attention has been on what the New York Knicks can do to swing a blockbuster trade. Leon Rose has compiled the assets to swing a major trade, he is just being patient and waiting for the right one.

Who could that player be? Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Donovan Mitchell is no longer on the radar. The team has been linked to Mikal Bridges of the Brooklyn Nets and Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers.

But, in the opinion of analyst and radio host Craig Carton, the New York Knicks have their eyes set on one player; Anthony Davis. The Los Angeles Lakers star, according to Carton, is their No. 1 target in the NBA.

“The New York Knicks, if they could make it happen, and figure it out, would like to add Anthony Davis to the roster. That’s the guy they want more than any other player in the league,” Carton said on his show, via KnicksMuse on X.

There has been zero indication that Anthony Davis is someone that the Lakers have an interest in moving this offseason. But, if you are the New York Knicks and that is the player you want, it doesn’t hurt to place a phone call.

There are a lot of things up in the air currently in Los Angeles. They just hired a first-time head coach in JJ Redick and LeBron James is set to enter free agency. It is widely expected he will return to the Lakers, but you never know what will happen in free agency.

Acquiring Davis certainly wouldn’t be cheap. Julius Randle would have to be included in any deal along with a large chunk of the draft capital the team has compiled. But, when healthy, Davis is one of the best players in the NBA.
