The Alabama Crimson Tide bagged a commitment from four-star 2027 quarterback Trent Seaborn last fall, and during his high-school football game at Thompson on Thursday night, you saw why there is so much excitement surrounding the top prospect.

The clip that 247Sports posted from Thompson’s 37-13 win over Clay-Chalkville is the latest reminder of why Alabama treated Seaborn as more than a local courtesy offer.

Four passing touchdowns on a Thursday night in late August is the kind of work the Crimson Tide expected when the four-star quarterback pledged in October 2025, and it fits a longer story that started far from Alabaster.

Seaborn’s path to Tuscaloosa did not begin in Shelby County. His family lived in Hawaii when he was young, then spent time in Colorado before settling in Alabama. The football thread that ran through those moves was a relationship with the Tagovailoa family.

As a kid on Oahu, he attended a free quarterback clinic connected to that circle. Years later the same group was training in the Tuscaloosa area, and the Seaborns made the drive often enough that Alabama stopped feeling like a destination and started feeling like the plan.

His father, Jason, has said the choice was always going to be the Crimson Tide. When the commitment finally came, he was emotional about a kid who had grown up measuring himself against the program that once developed Tua Tagovailoa.

By the time Seaborn made it official after another visit that included Alabama’s win over Tennessee, he had already started varsity as an eighth grader at Thompson and stacked state titles. He told recruiting outlets that playing for his home state, with teammates he had faced for years, was a rare chance at a place like Alabama.

The scheme under Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb also lined up with how he plays: an accurate passer who has to process quickly and use the weapons around him rather than overwhelm defenses with size. At 6-foot-1 and about 200 pounds he was never going to be sold as a prototype pocket giant.

What he sold instead was command, footwork, and a habit of delivering the ball on time, traits that showed again in the Clay-Chalkville game and in an earlier season-opening outburst against Central-Phenix City.

Alabama staff members had been on him early and stayed on him. Quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan kept a weekly conversation going; DeBoer and Grubb made a point of seeing him in person on game weekends. Seaborn has described those locker-room and sideline talks as confirmation rather than persuasion.

He shut down his recruitment after choosing the Tide over Miami, Oregon, South Carolina, Auburn, Florida State, Clemson and others, then used official-visit weekends to help recruit, not to reopen his own file.

That is the context for the highlight 247Sports circulated. A committed in-state quarterback putting four touchdowns on the board is not a surprise if you have followed the tape. It is the public continuation of a decision that was years in the making, shaped as much by a Hawaiian clinic and a family’s cross-country moves as by any single official visit.

Seaborn is still a high school senior with another season to finish and another recruiting class to help fill. Nights like Thompson’s win over Clay-Chalkville are how he keeps showing why Alabama believed the long road ended in Tuscaloosa.
