In the midst of an already depleted roster, the Detroit Lions absorbed another setback Sunday afternoon when linebacker Devin White was carted from the field with a forearm injury during their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

The injury occurred late in the first quarter after White absorbed a direct blow to his forearm.

Broadcast cameras captured him immediately clutching the arm in visible pain before medical staff evaluated him on the sideline.

He was then transported to the locker room and, as of the latest available reports, had not returned to the sideline. The Lions’ official X account later confirmed the designation: forearm, questionable to return.

The timing compounds an already challenging afternoon for Detroit’s defense.

Entering the game, the Lions were without center Cade Mays (wrist), safety Brian Branch (Achilles), guard Ben Bartch (foot), and cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (hamstring), among others.

The secondary and interior line had already been reshuffled, and losing White—who had seen significant snaps in the team’s first two games—further thins an experienced group at linebacker.

In his absence, Malcolm Rodriguez figures to assume a larger role on the edge or in the middle, depending on how the coaching staff adjusts the personnel packages.

White arrived in Detroit this offseason on a one-year free-agent deal after stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans, and Las Vegas Raiders.

The former fifth overall pick out of LSU recorded nine total tackles across the Lions’ opening two contests before being a healthy scratch in Weeks 3 and 4.

His availability for the remainder of Sunday’s game remains uncertain, and any longer-term absence would force the Lions to lean more heavily on younger or less experienced options behind the starting group.

As of early in the second quarter, the Lions held a 14-7 lead, powered by touchdown contributions from Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta.

Whether White can rejoin the defense will influence how Detroit manages the remainder of the contest and, potentially, the coming weeks as the team navigates an already crowded injury report.

Further updates are expected once the game concludes or if White is ruled out definitively.
