The Seattle Seahawks signed running back Robert Henry Jr. to their active roster from the Washington Commanders practice squad on Monday, according to multiple reports.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted on X: “Sources: The Seahawks are signing RB Robert Henry Jr. to their active roster off the Commanders practice squad.”
Commanders reporter Ben Standig confirmed the transaction, writing: “RB Robert Henry Jr. is being signed off the Commanders’ practice squad by Seattle, source confirms.”
Henry, a 24-year-old undrafted free agent from UTSA, had remained on Washington’s practice squad since the start of the regular season after missing the initial 53-man roster.
The 5-foot-9, 196-pound back agreed to terms with the Commanders on May 7, days after the 2026 NFL draft concluded.
Washington released him on Aug. 30 during final roster cuts and re-signed him to the practice squad the following day. In three preseason appearances, Henry rushed 26 times for 105 yards and one touchdown while catching two passes for six yards.
During his final college season at UTSA in 2025, he carried the ball 151 times for 1,045 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 6.9 yards per attempt. Those numbers earned him first-team All-American Conference recognition.
Across three seasons with the Roadrunners, Henry accumulated 2,339 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on 408 carries. He also recorded 58 receptions for 428 yards and three scores as a receiver during that span.
At his pro day, Henry ran a 4.52-second 40-yard dash, posted a 37-inch vertical jump and recorded a 10-foot-5 broad jump.
The Seahawks enter the move as the defending Super Bowl champions after their victory in Super Bowl LX in February.
Henry was born Dec. 31, 2001, in Lumberton, Mississippi, where he rushed for more than 7,000 yards and 99 touchdowns in high school before playing two seasons at Jones College.
Washington’s active running back group features Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White and Kaytron Allen, leaving limited opportunities for elevations earlier in the year.
League rules allow any team to sign a practice squad player to its active roster, and the original club has no matching rights once the deal is completed.
The addition supplies Seattle with another depth option at the position as the 2026 season moves into October.
