Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley will undergo an MRI after he suffered a stinger in Sunday’s 24-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

The injury occurred on the very first offensive play of the game.

Barkley took a handoff from quarterback Jalen Hurts and was stopped for no gain by Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. He stayed down for a moment before walking off the field while holding his left arm.

Trainers evaluated him in the medical tent on the sideline. Barkley then jogged to the locker room for further checks.

The Eagles announced he was questionable to return with a stinger. He came back to the sideline later in the first half wearing a neck roll.

Barkley re-entered the game to start the second half.

The Eagles still managed to pull out the win on a late touchdown pass from Hurts to Darius Cooper with nine seconds remaining.

After the contest, Barkley addressed the injury. He confirmed it was a stinger and that he would get an MRI.

“[We] will know more in the future.”

Barkley had 15 carries for 83 yards in the season opener last week against Washington. The Eagles leaned on backups Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley while he was out.

Bigsby scored a two-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Tight end Dallas Goedert also left the game with a knee injury and did not return.

Barkley has not missed a game because of injury since he joined the Eagles in 2024. The offense relies heavily on him as the featured back.

A stinger typically involves a nerve stretch or pinch in the neck or shoulder area that can cause temporary numbness or weakness in the arm. The team will wait for the MRI results to determine his status moving forward.

Philadelphia is now 2-0 and next faces the Chicago Bears on Monday night in Week 3.

The game was played in extreme heat at Nissan Stadium, with the turf temperature reaching well over 150 degrees.

Hurts finished with 264 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. DeVonta Smith led the receivers with 10 catches for 117 yards. The Titans dropped to 0-2 despite a strong effort from their defense.

Barkley’s availability for the coming week remains the biggest question for the Eagles after this scare.
