The Philadelphia Phillies completed a major trade deadline move Monday, landing second baseman Luis Arraez and relief pitcher Caleb Kilian from the San Francisco Giants.
In exchange, the Phillies parted with pitching prospects Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair, according to reports.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan first detailed the acquisition of Arraez, a move aimed at strengthening a struggling offense.
MLB insider Jayson Stark later confirmed the full package, including the addition of Kilian to the bullpen.
Arraez, a three-time batting champion, enters the deal hitting .324 with a .360 on-base percentage and .440 slugging mark across 464 plate appearances this season. He has produced four home runs, 43 RBIs, 23 doubles and seven triples while going a perfect 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts.
The left-handed hitter has been especially effective with runners in scoring position, posting a .382 average in those situations — an area where Philadelphia has struggled for much of the year.
Career-wise, Arraez owns a .318 lifetime batting average, ranking him as the active leader among major league players. His arrival is expected to bolster a Phillies lineup already featuring Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh.
Kilian, meanwhile, posted a 4.26 ERA over 45 relief outings for the Giants this season. His 3.59 FIP suggests stronger underlying performance, and he has averaged 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
The 29-year-old made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2022, where he struggled to a 9.22 ERA in eight appearances that included five starts.
After signing with San Francisco as a free agent last winter, Kilian emerged as a reliable bullpen contributor throughout the 2026 campaign. The Phillies entered the final stretch before the deadline searching for both offensive production and relief depth while battling for a National League wild-card berth.
Philadelphia dropped eight of nine games before securing the final two contests of a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend.
The club is scheduled to host the Washington Nationals on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park, where Arraez could make his debut in the starting lineup.
