The MLB trade deadline is rapidly approaching, and teams across the league are making moves to strengthen their rosters for the stretch run. On Saturday morning, the Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Guardians completed a multi-player deal that brought some interesting pieces to both clubs.
In the transaction, Milwaukee acquired catcher and utility player Bo Naylor, a five-year MLB veteran and the brother of Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor.
Naylor had spent his entire career with the Guardians organization to this point but was currently with their Triple-A affiliate in Columbus after a difficult stretch at the plate. In limited action with Cleveland this season, spanning 84 at-bats, he was hitting just .143 with a pair of home runs and seven RBIs. Across more than 1,000 career at-bats, his numbers sit at a .199 average with 40 home runs and 125 RBIs.
Coming along with Naylor to Milwaukee was right-handed relief pitcher Cody Heuer. Heuer has appeared in parts of four big-league seasons and has already bounced around to several different organizations. Like Naylor, he was pitching in Columbus at the time of the deal.
On the other side of the trade, Cleveland received outfielder Blake Perkins and reliever Craig Yoho.
Yoho, in just his second major league season, has been one of the more effective arms out of the Brewers bullpen this year. In 15 appearances for Milwaukee he posted a 2-0 record with a 3.15 ERA, giving the Guardians a potentially useful late-inning option as they try to stay in the AL Central race.
Perkins has shown defensive reliability in the outfield during his time with Milwaukee but has struggled offensively in 2026. Appearing in 55 games, he was batting .157 with one home run and 11 RBIs. Over his four-year career he owns a .223 average and 14 home runs.
The Guardians, who have been sliding in the standings, hope the addition of Perkins and especially Yoho can provide immediate help.
For the Brewers, the acquisition of Naylor and Heuer adds depth and experience that could prove useful as the season heads into its final months.
Milwaukee is also viewed as one of the top potential destinations for Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, who is expected to be dealt before Monday’s deadline.
The Brewers have one of the top farm systems in all of baseball, so they definitely have the goods to put together an enticing offer for the Tigers.
Whether or not Milwaukee takes the risk for Skubal, who is an impending free agent, remains to be seen.
