While some reports have suggested the club could pursue major acquisitions, indications point toward more modest depth additions for now. The franchise possesses the prospect capital and financial flexibility to pursue nearly any available player should priorities shift.
Roster gaps appear limited outside of players currently on the injured list. Several of those athletes are expected to return in the near term, reducing the urgency for wholesale changes.
Depth improvements or bolstering the farm system stand as the more probable avenues. The organization’s emphasis on roster versatility, however, leaves open the possibility of unexpected moves.
New York Post columnist Jon Heyman recently noted the Dodgers among clubs exploring right-handed hitting options. The comment came amid discussion of New York Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor.
“Tyrone Taylor is a capable fourth outfielder who’s hot, but he doesn’t have the hitting pedigree that will motivate teams seeking a righty bat (Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Phillies, Mariners),” Heyman wrote.
The inclusion of Los Angeles raises eyebrows given the existing supply of right-handed bats already on the roster. Utility player Kiké Hernández has rejoined the group following his recovery, further solidifying the bench.
An addition such as Taylor might gain traction only if the Dodgers elect to part with outfielder Alex Call. Priorities elsewhere, particularly in the bullpen or behind the plate, would make such a move less logical in isolation.
A broader package involving the Mets could alter the equation. New York starter Freddy Peralta has drawn interest this season, and Los Angeles expressed curiosity about him during the previous offseason.
The search for a right-handed bat stems in part from recent absences and performance dips. Catcher Will Smith remains sidelined while Teoscar Hernández and Mookie Betts have endured stretches of inconsistency, creating a temporary shortage of power from that side of the plate.
Replacing everyday lineup contributors remains unlikely. Hernández’s availability addresses much of the need for a versatile reserve.
One pathway to address multiple areas at once would involve acquiring a right-handed hitting catcher to complement Dalton Rushing. Candidates fitting that profile include Minnesota’s Ryan Jeffers and Cincinnati’s Tyler Stephenson.
As the deadline nears, the Dodgers’ front office continues evaluating options that align with both immediate contention goals and longer-term flexibility. Any transaction would reflect the careful balance the club has maintained throughout the season.
