Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed readiness Tuesday to sacrifice upcoming draft selections in pursuit of immediate roster upgrades aimed at contending for a Super Bowl title this season.
Jones shared his views with members of the media while the team conducted training camp activities in California.
He made clear his openness to bolstering the current roster through trades involving future resources.
“Candidly, I’d be very interested,” Jones said. “I’d give up future [assets] to add substantive [talent] to where we are today as to a player, to give you an idea about what I invest. Something substantive to get the right kind of deal to improve us opening day. I would. I feel that good about this team, this year.”
The comments came as the franchise prepares for the upcoming NFL campaign under high expectations.
Jones noted that evaluations remain preliminary since the full group has yet to take the field in games.
“Of course, you know that I haven’t seen this team play together, but in general, looking ahead, I think we’ve got a chance to be worthy of spending some future if we saw an opportunity,” he said.
At 83 years old, Jones faces personal timelines that could influence his approach to team building. This season also coincides with three decades since the Cowboys last claimed an NFL championship in Super Bowl XXX.

“Let me just say this: There’s no way that I would do anything that would delay until next year or the next year to try to get to a Super Bowl this year,” Jones said. “I feel that good about what we’re starting with.”
