Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has gotten off to a slow start this season, which has many wondering if his best days are behind him. Head coach Andy Reid would beg to differ.

While speaking to reporters, Reid defended Kelce, saying that the pass-catcher is still attracting plenty of attention from defenses.

“I know people are saying that he’s old or has distractions, but the defenses don’t think that,” Andy Reid said, via Nate Taylor of The Athletic. “We have another receiver [Rashee Rice] that plays opposite of [Kelce] who has a lot of yards and catches. That’s how this thing goes. Travis is fine. He just keeps being Travis. He works his tail off and he hasn’t lost a step. He’s not distracted.”

Kelce has logged just eight catches for 69 yards and is yet to reach the end zone through three games.

However, Rice has already hauled in 24 receptions for 288 yards and a couple of touchdowns, indicating that the young wide receiver has been able to get open consistently.

Kelce’s presence certainly has something to do with the fact.

There are obviously concerns that Kelce’s age and off-the-field endeavors are playing a role in his lack of production this season, and at least in terms of the former, that may be the case. After all, Kelce is 35 years old. But this is also the same guy who dominated in the playoffs last season.

It’s hard to gauge the Chiefs during the regular season. Remember: last year, people questioned if Kansas City was in trouble due to a midseason malaise, but the team flipped a switch in the playoffs.

We’ll see if Travis Kelce is able to start racking up some numbers as the season progresses.
