Analyst Pitches Los Angeles Chargers Blockbuster Trade

The Los Angeles Chargers underwent some massive changes this offseason. Jim Harbaugh took over as head coach and the team had to make some moves to get under the salary cap.

That resulted in several key members from recent seasons being moved on from. Mike Williams was released and Keenan Allen was traded to the Chicago Bears, leaving a huge void at wide receiver.

Running back Austin Ekeler signed with the Washington Commanders and tight end Gerald Everett joined Allen on the Bears. That is a lot of weaponry that the Los Angeles Chargers lost, putting Justin Herbert in a tough spot.

His top wide receivers right now are Joshua Palmer, 2023 first-round pick Quentin Johnston and 2024 second-round pick Ladd McConkey. Ideally, the young players emerge as go-to targets, but that is a risky route to take.

It would not be surprising to see the Los Angeles Chargers attempt to make a splash, especially when they get their salary cap situation under control. If they opt to make a move this year, Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers would be an ideal target.

Alex Kay of Bleacher Report has pitched the Los Angeles Chargers as a landing spot for the talented wide receiver. What could a deal between the Chargers and the 49ers look like? Kay has shared a blockbuster proposal.

Los Angeles would receive Aiyuk in exchange for defensive end Joey Bosa and a 2025 second-round pick. That would be a huge trade with two star-level performers being on the move.

“Los Angeles would need to add a premium pick to get this deal done. A 2025 second-rounder could do the trick, allowing San Francisco to move on from Aiyuk in exchange for both a much-needed edge rusher and an elite prospect in next year’s draft,” Kay wrote.

Pairing Joey up with his brother Nick Bosa would be a huge move for the 49ers. They tried filling the void opposite of him last year ahead of the deadline by acquiring Chase Young from the Washington Commanders.

That deal didn’t pan out as well as they would have hoped, and Young is now on the New Orleans Saints. Joey Bosa has had injury concerns, but a move to play with his brother could rejuvenate him.

As for the Los Angeles Chargers, they add a much-needed upgrade to their offense. Aiyuk would be the No. 1 receiver for Herbert to work with, moving everyone else down a slot into roles better suited for them.

Losing Bosa would certainly hurt, but his injuries in the last few seasons have been draining. If they could land a bonafide upgrade offensively in exchange for him, Harbaugh and company would think long and hard about pulling the trigger.
