Indiana Hoosiers football fans remain closely connected to the professional careers of the players who helped deliver the program’s first College Football Playoff national championship last season.
Those former standouts left Bloomington with lasting memories of a perfect campaign and the recognition that comes with All-American honors.
The Hoosiers community follows each development involving those alumni as they adjust to the demands of the NFL.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz has reported that the Houston Texans are releasing rookie linebacker Aiden Fisher.
The seventh-round selection will be placed on waivers after seeing only limited early action with the club.
Fisher earned first-team All-American status during both of his seasons in the cream and crimson. He operated as a vocal on-field leader and consistent playmaker for the defense that guided Indiana through an undefeated championship run.
Before transferring to Bloomington he spent time at James Madison and made the move alongside head coach Curt Cignetti.
In his brief professional tenure he has logged a single tackle while adapting to the greater speed and complexity of the league.
Supporters recall the production he delivered while totaling more than 200 tackles across two seasons with the Hoosiers. He supplemented those stops with sacks, interceptions and a forced fumble while helping direct one of the country’s most reliable units.
Fisher also advanced to the finalist stage for the Butkus Award as recognition of his standing among the nation’s top linebackers.
The Texans chose him with the 243rd overall pick following a college path that began as a lightly recruited prospect out of Riverbend High School in Virginia.
Any organization can submit a claim for him during the waiver window based on the league’s established priority order. If he goes unclaimed he would clear the process and become available to continue his career with another team.
Alumni and fans view the development as one more chapter in a career marked by steady progress and quiet determination.
The same work ethic and leadership that fueled Indiana’s title season leave him well positioned to contribute wherever the next opportunity arises.
