The New York Yankees head into another offseason determined to correct the shortcomings that once again kept them from championship contention.
Their regular-season success has not translated to October, and among the roster issues requiring attention is the catcher position, a longstanding need that went unaddressed at the previous trade deadline.
In a recent trade pitch published by Michael DeRosa of Heavy.com, the Yankees are encouraged to pursue Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman in a significant deal.
The proposal would send Goodman to New York while the Rockies receive current Yankees catcher Austin Wells along with prospects Carlos Lagrange, Rory Fox, and Core Jackson.
Such a move would give the Yankees a proven power bat behind the plate and provide Colorado with a young catcher plus several promising arms and position players as they continue their rebuild.
Goodman, a four-year major leaguer, produced one of the league’s more impressive offensive seasons in 2026.
He hit 41 home runs and drove in 88 runs across 138 games for the Rockies, building on a 2025 campaign in which he slugged 31 home runs, recorded 91 RBIs, and batted .278 over 144 contests.
Those numbers position him as a legitimate middle-of-the-order threat capable of elevating the Yankees’ lineup, particularly in a hitter-friendly ballpark.
Beyond the immediate production, Goodman’s contractual situation adds considerable value.
He remains under team control through the end of the 2029 season, meaning any acquiring club would secure multiple years of service rather than a short-term rental.
That longevity makes the cost of acquisition more justifiable for a contender seeking sustained impact rather than a one-year patch.
Acquiring Goodman would require the Yankees to part with meaningful pieces, including a major-league catcher and several highly regarded prospects.
Yet the return could reshape their lineup by inserting a consistent run producer at a position that has lacked that presence.
Goodman’s power profile appears well-suited to Yankee Stadium, and his arrival would allow the club to reallocate resources elsewhere while addressing a clear organizational priority.
Whether New York ultimately pursues such a deal remains to be seen, but the combination of elite production and remaining control makes Goodman one of the more intriguing targets available as the offseason unfolds.
