A Buffalo Bills analyst is urging the team to test the trade market for Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun as the club tries to steady a defense that struggled against the New England Patriots.
The Bills remain inside their Super Bowl window and could get aggressive before the deadline if the right player becomes available.
Questions have surfaced at linebacker and in the secondary after the New England game.
Starting linebacker Terrel Bernard had a difficult afternoon against the Patriots and spent stretches on the sideline.
Buffalo turned to Dorian Williams and rookie Kaleb Elarms-Orr in his place.
Bills analyst Carl Jones said the linebacker spot is where he would look first if the team wants to shore up the front seven.
“For me, I’ll go to the linebacker position if we want to shore that up,” Jones said. “The Philadelphia Eagles just gave up. Obviously, kudos to Lane Johnson; a hell of a career at right tackle, he retired. Then, they trade Cam Jurgens for a second-round pick.”
“Kick the tires on Zack Baun, a former All-Pro first-team, see what it would take to get him. Clearly, the Eagles are always progressive and thinking about the future. It doesn’t get much better than Zack Baun at the linebacker position. Holler at Howie Roseman.”
Baun, 29, has been a high-volume tackler since becoming a full-time starter in Philadelphia.
He finished the 2024 season with 151 tackles, earned first-team All-Pro honors and helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX. He followed that with 123 tackles in 2025 and a second straight Pro Bowl selection.
Through the early weeks of 2026, Baun has recorded 25 tackles for the Eagles.
The former Wisconsin standout can man the middle of the field and also rush the passer on designed blitzes.
Those traits could take pressure off Bernard, who has been uneven so far this season.
Head coach Joe Brady still offered support for the current group ahead of Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
“I really like how they’re playing. This scheme fits those guys so well. It frees up TB.. Dorian.. The way he plays the game is exactly what we’re looking for,” Brady said.
Even with that endorsement, the Bills have not received the production they need from the position for a sustained playoff push.
Baun signed a three-year, $51 million contract with Philadelphia in March 2025, so any deal would require compensation that satisfies general manager Howie Roseman.
He has also been working through the concussion protocol and was limited in practice this week, which could affect his availability in the short term.
A healthy Baun would give Buffalo an experienced starter who has already produced at an All-Pro level.
