Jonah Bride has elected free agency, ending a winding season with the Texas Rangers that never quite produced a sustained role in the majors.

The 30-year-old corner infielder, a five-year major league veteran, refused a minor-league assignment and became a free agent on Oct. 3, via MLB Trade Rumors.

The move was easy to miss amid the playoffs, but it closes a year defined by solid production in Triple-A and only a brief look in Arlington.

Bride signed a minor-league contract with Texas on Dec. 2, 2025, and reported to spring training as a non-roster invitee. He spent most of 2026 with the Round Rock Express, where he hit .282 with a .401 on-base percentage and a .425 slugging percentage, with 10 home runs and 60 RBI.

He walked more than he struck out and split his time mostly between first base and third, with occasional work in left field. The Rangers released him in mid-July, then brought him back on a new minor-league deal four days later.

Texas selected his contract on Aug. 9, sending outfielder Alejandro Osuna to Round Rock to make room. The call-up lasted two days.

Bride was designated for assignment on Aug. 11 when the Rangers added Jarred Kelenic, cleared waivers, and was outrighted to Round Rock on Aug. 13. In two games with the Rangers he went 1-for-5 with a walk.

That cameo was his only major league time in 2026. Across five seasons he has appeared in 216 games for the Oakland Athletics, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins, and Rangers, batting .220/.311/.312 with 12 home runs and 57 RBI.

His best stretch came in 2024 with Miami, when he hit .276 with 11 homers and 39 RBI in 71 games.

The following year, he struggled in short looks with the Marlins and Twins, elected free agency after the season, and landed in the Rangers’ system.

An Owasso, Oklahoma, native and South Carolina product, Bride was a 23rd-round pick of the Athletics in 2018 and debuted in June 2022.

He has never locked down an everyday job, but his plate discipline and ability to cover first, third, and a corner outfield spot have kept him in circulation as organizational depth.

Whether he returns to Texas or looks elsewhere is open. Round Rock was a productive stop, yet two games in the majors is a thin return on a full minor-league season.

At 30, with five years of big-league service behind him, Bride enters the winter as a free agent again, shopping the same profile that has defined his career: a right-handed bat who gets on base, can play several spots, and is still waiting for a longer opportunity.
