The Jacksonville Jaguars added cornerback Alijah Huzzie to their 53-man roster on Tuesday, signing him off the Houston Texans practice squad.

The move was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and confirmed by the team. Jacksonville also signed cornerback Jaylon Jones, waived cornerback Christian Braswell with an injury designation and placed safety Caleb Ransaw on injured reserve.

The secondary has been thin. Cornerbacks Montaric Brown (hamstring) and Christian Braswell (knee) both missed the Jaguars’ most recent game, leaving the club with only four healthy cornerbacks available.

Huzzie, 25, gives the defense another body before a pair of overseas games. He has not appeared in a regular-season contest this year.

He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Houston after the 2025 draft. He spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad after beginning the year on the non-football injury list.

Huzzie played in two games for the Texans in 2025. He finished with four total tackles, one pass defended and one interception, according to team and league tracking.

He was among Houston’s final roster cuts this summer and returned to the practice squad. Jacksonville claimed him directly to the active roster rather than the practice squad.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound cornerback is from LaGrange, Georgia, and played high school football at Heard County. He began his college career at East Tennessee State before transferring.

In four seasons with the Buccaneers he recorded 12 interceptions and 30 pass deflections. His 2022 campaign produced six interceptions and 22 pass breakups, earning him first-team FCS All-American recognition.

He then spent two seasons at North Carolina. Across 24 games with the Tar Heels he posted 82 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, 18 passes defended and two sacks, and he earned All-ACC honors in 2023.

He also returned punts in Chapel Hill, scoring twice on returns. Combined college production across both programs included 16 interceptions.

Huzzie has lined up both outside and in the slot. That versatility could matter if injuries linger.

Jacksonville travels to London for Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles and stays overseas for Week 6 against the Texans. Adding a cornerback from a division rival supplies immediate depth for those contests.

The Jaguars have not announced a corresponding roster cut beyond the Braswell and Ransaw transactions. Huzzie is expected to be available as the team prepares for the Eagles.
