Tankathon’s latest 2027 NFL mock draft has Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin coming off the board at No. 31 overall, the last pick of the first round, a projection that puts a high-efficiency passer in range of teams treating 2026 as a one-year experiment under center.
The Minnesota Vikings are that team.
Minnesota is 3-0 after a 23-16 win at Tampa Bay. Kyler Murray completed 15 of 29 passes for 168 yards, one touchdown and one interception in his first full game since a concussion in the opener.
Minnesota traded J.J. McCarthy, the No. 10 pick in 2024, to the Giants for a fifth-round selection. Carson Wentz is the backup. Max Brosmer was elevated to the 53.
Murray signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal after Arizona released him. The Cardinals still owe most of the old money. If he plays well, Minnesota can extend him. If he does not, the 2027 draft is the next reset.
Sayin is listed at 6-foot-1 and 214 pounds. Tankathon ranks him among the second tier of quarterbacks, behind Arch Manning, Darian Mensah, Dante Moore, Trinidad Chambliss and C.J. Carr.
The 2026 tape is efficient. Through four games he is 83 of 115 for 1,206 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception, a 72.2 completion rate and a 187.2 passer rating. Against Illinois he was 27 of 36 for 367 yards and four scores with a rushing touchdown.
In 2025 he completed 77.0 percent of his passes for 3,610 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions, finished fourth in Heisman voting and was Big Ten Freshman of the Year. His career totals: 4,533 yards, 39 touchdowns and nine interceptions at 75.1 percent.
Accuracy is the selling point. Size and improvisation outside the pocket are the questions. Kevin O’Connell’s offense has rewarded quarterbacks who process quickly and throw on time. Sayin’s profile fits that more cleanly than Murray’s dual-threat skill set.
Minnesota has asked the quarterback question five offseasons in a row. Cousins left. McCarthy started 10 games. Murray won a camp battle on a prove-it contract. Drafting Sayin at 31 would be a cheaper swing than trading up for Manning or Mensah: a young starter who can sit if Murray earns a second year.
Justin Jefferson is still the centerpiece when healthy. Jordan Addison caught Murray’s first Vikings touchdown. The weapons are not the issue. The contract at quarterback is.
Tankathon updates after every game and factors need. A 3-0 start could push the Vikings into Round 2. Sayin could climb if the efficiency holds. The mock still has an Ohio State quarterback available at the end of Round 1 for a franchise that just moved its last first-round passer.
Replacement is the word because Murray’s deal expires in March. The tape will decide whether Minnesota pays him or starts over. Tankathon has them taking Sayin before they have to choose.
