Smith was pulled over, taken into custody, and processed into the Hunt County Detention Center. His brother was in the vehicle and left with it. Jail records listed no bond.
Smith spent 16 seasons in the NBA and later won titles in Cleveland and Los Angeles, but his New York stretch remains the version local fans argue about in barbershops.
He arrived in 2012 and immediately became a Sixth Man of the Year candidate who could tilt a fourth quarter with a heat check that looked reckless until it went in.
