The Las Vegas Raiders have elevated wide receiver Cody White from the practice squad for Sunday’s Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints, using the last of his three allowed regular-season elevations, via the NFL transaction wire.
The move, announced Saturday, keeps the 27-year-old available at Caesars Superdome after he already played in Las Vegas’ first two games.
Under NFL rules, a practice-squad player can be elevated three times in a season.
After this week, the Raiders would have to sign White to the 53-man roster if they want him on the field again.
White has been in the NFL since 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State, with his first regular-season work coming in 2021 with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He later spent three seasons in Seattle, including a Super Bowl championship year under current Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak, who was the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator.
Seattle released him at final cuts this August. Las Vegas signed him to the practice squad on Sept. 1.
The reunion has paid off quickly. In Week 1 against Miami, White did not record a catch but earned a game ball for special teams, including a touchdown-saving tackle on kickoff coverage.
In Week 2 at the Los Angeles Chargers, he played just seven offensive snaps and caught both of his targets for 24 yards — and two touchdowns — from Kirk Cousins in a 26-14 win.
The 13- and 11-yard scores were his first two receptions as a Raider. He entered the season with 11 career catches for 169 yards and one touchdown.
The 6-foot-3 receiver remains more of a complementary piece and special-teams contributor than a featured target behind Tre Tucker, Jack Bech and Jalen Nailor.
Still, the two-score game and coverage value have made the next roster decision more complicated. Another team could try to claim him if Las Vegas sends him back to the practice squad after Sunday.
The 2-0 Raiders visit the Saints with kickoff at 1:25 p.m. PT. White’s third elevation keeps a proven depth option and core special-teamer in uniform.
What happens after the game will say as much about his standing as the snaps he gets against New Orleans.
