Saddiq Bey has agreed to a three-year, $55.5 million extension with the New Orleans Pelicans, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday.
Agents James Dunleavy and Jordan Gertler of Excel Sports Management told Charania the deal is fully guaranteed and includes a trade kicker. Bey is signed through the 2029-30 season.
He was entering the final year of his contract at roughly $6.5 million.
Bey tore the ACL in his left knee in March 2024 as a member of the Atlanta Hawks. He missed the entire 2024-25 season.
Washington signed him to a three-year, $20 million deal that summer while he rehabbed. Bey grew up in the area and played high school ball at DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland.
He never played a game for the Wizards. Washington traded him to New Orleans last summer in the deal that sent CJ McCollum to Washington and brought Jordan Poole to the Pelicans.
Bey played 72 games last season and started 64 of them. He averaged 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.9 steals in 31.2 minutes, shooting 45.1% from the field, 36.7% from 3-point range and 84.1% at the line.
All of those scoring and shooting numbers were career highs.
Three of the four highest-scoring games of Bey’s career came last season, including a 42-point night against Utah in February.
Only Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III averaged more points for New Orleans.
Detroit drafted Bey 19th overall in 2020 out of Villanova. He spent parts of three seasons with the Pistons before a 2023 deadline trade sent him to Atlanta.
Bey turns 28 in April. The extension covers his age-27 season through age 31.
New Orleans went 26-56 last season and finished 11th in the Western Conference. The Pelicans fired Willie Green early in the year and later let interim coach James Borrego go.
Jamahl Mosley took over on a five-year contract this offseason.
The front office ran by Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver made no draft picks in 2026 and no trades this summer. Bennedict Mathurin, signed to a two-year, $16 million deal in late August, was the only significant addition.
Mathurin averaged 17.6 points in 54 games with Indiana and the Clippers last season. He and Bey are expected to compete for the starting job on the wing.
Williamson averaged 21.0 points on 60.0% shooting in 2025-26. Murphy averaged 21.5. Dejounte Murray is coming off a season spent mostly recovering from a ruptured right Achilles.
Rookies Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen both made the All-Rookie second team.
Training camp opens later this month. New Orleans opens the season against Indiana on Oct. 21.
