The Los Angeles Rams continue to navigate a careful recovery process for defensive end Myles Garrett, whose knee issue has kept him sidelined for multiple training camp practices.

In fact, Nate Atkins of The Athletic reported that Garrett was not practicing on Thursday, the latest concerning update regarding the superstar pass rusher.

Head coach Sean McVay and the coaching staff have prioritized a patient approach, emphasizing that the team will not rush the star pass rusher back until he reaches full strength.

Garrett has been working his way back from the knee problem that limited him early in camp.

Recent updates indicate he has progressed to roughly 85 percent, a noticeable step forward, yet the Rams remain firm in their stance that he must be completely healthy before returning to full team drills.

McVay had previously suggested Garrett might miss several sessions and expressed hope that the edge rusher would be ready as the current block of practices began. That timeline has shifted, underscoring the unpredictable nature of soft-tissue and joint recoveries even for elite athletes.

The caution surrounding Garrett’s knee is understandable. As the most important piece of the Rams’ defense, his ability to generate pressure off the edge is central to the unit’s success.

Rushing him back risks a setback that could linger into the regular season, something the organization is determined to avoid.

Instead, the staff is allowing him additional time to build strength and confidence in the knee, with individual work continuing on the side while he stays away from full-contact practice.

This measured strategy reflects a broader philosophy McVay has applied to other players managing lower-body concerns.

The expectation remains that Garrett will eventually resume practicing once medical staff clear him at 100 percent. Until then, the Rams will monitor his progress closely and adjust plans as needed.

For a defense counting on his production, the priority is clear: get the knee right so Garrett can contribute at full capacity when the games that matter begin.
