Veteran tight end Zach Ertz, recently cleared for football activities after a torn ACL last season, has emerged as a potential free-agent target for several NFL teams seeking reliable pass-catching help.
The three-time Pro Bowler, now 35, finished last season with 504 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 13 games before the injury ended his campaign. He averaged 38.8 receiving yards per game, ranking 17th among tight ends.
One team discussed as a possible landing spot is the Kansas City Chiefs.

“While the Kansas City Chiefs already have one of the NFL’s oldest tight ends in the 36-year-old Travis Kelce, this is also a team that could use more reliable weapons for Patrick Mahomes, and Ertz is as proven as they come. By adding Ertz, the Chiefs would have a strong group of pass-catching tight ends, but they may prefer to save this roster spot for someone who can make a bigger impact as a blocker too.”
The club already features 36-year-old Travis Kelce, one of the league’s oldest and most accomplished tight ends, yet continues to look for additional reliable weapons around quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Adding Ertz would create a strong group of pass-catching tight ends in Kansas City. The veteran has long been regarded as a proven target who can work the middle of the field and convert opportunities in the red zone.
Chiefs coaches and front-office personnel have prioritized depth at the position in recent seasons. Pairing Ertz with Kelce could give Mahomes multiple trusted options on intermediate routes while maintaining the team’s established offensive identity.
