Paige Bueckers is speaking candidly about the intense spotlight that has surrounded Caitlin Clark in women’s basketball.
The Dallas Wings guard, selected first overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, has emerged as one of the league’s brightest young talents. Yet her level of widespread recognition has not matched that of Clark, the Indiana Fever star who was taken No. 1 a year earlier and has drawn a global following unmatched in the sport’s history.

“I felt bad because I felt jealous in a way and I felt envious,” Bueckers said. “I’ve never been that type of person where I don’t want other people to succeed, like I want everyone around me to succeed more than I want myself to succeed.”
Those feelings surfaced after Bueckers claimed National Player of the Year honors as a freshman at UConn. A serious knee injury then forced her to the sidelines for an extended period.
