The New York Yankees face a critical stretch ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline as injuries pile up across their roster, prompting fresh speculation about potential outfield reinforcements.

Several key position players remain sidelined, including Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger, all currently on the injured list. That has shifted some attention toward external options who could provide immediate depth in the outfield while the club continues to prioritize help in the bullpen and at catcher.

According to a report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees appear cautious about pursuing New York Mets outfielder Luis Robert Jr. because of his recent injury history. Instead, five other names have surfaced as possible targets should they become available in the coming days.

Those players are Lane Thomas, Spencer Steer, Jo Adell, Jorge Soler and George Springer. Most play for clubs widely viewed as potential sellers before the deadline, though Springer’s situation could prove more complicated depending on his team’s outlook.

The Yankees already made one corresponding roster move by promoting prospect Spencer Jones from the minors after placing Bellinger on the injured list. Jones offers a young, athletic presence, but the organization may still look for proven major league contributors to stabilize the lineup through the second half.

Despite a rough patch that stretched from late June into early July, the Yankees have shown resilience. They entered Sunday’s series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies riding a three-game winning streak and sitting at 59-45 overall.

That record places them second in the American League East, 2.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Should the regular season end today, New York would host a best-of-three Wild Card series against the Boston Red Sox.

The combination of recent wins and mounting injuries has created a delicate balance for the front office. General manager Brian Cashman and his staff must weigh short-term roster needs against the long-term cost of any deal, especially with several high-profile free agents potentially on the horizon after the season.

Outfield production remains a concern while Judge, Stanton and Bellinger recover. The club has relied on a mix of internal options and opportunistic lineups, yet consistent right-handed power from the corners or center field could provide a meaningful boost as the playoff race intensifies.

Trade discussions often accelerate in the final week before the deadline. Contending teams typically seek players under control for the remainder of the year who can step in without lengthy adjustment periods. The five names floated by Heyman fit that general profile to varying degrees.

Thomas has shown flashes of speed and contact ability in recent seasons. Steer offers versatility and a solid bat. Adell continues to develop raw power. Soler brings established home-run potential, and Springer remains a veteran presence known for postseason experience.

Whether any of those players ultimately change teams remains uncertain. Sellers must decide how aggressively to deal, while the Yankees evaluate medical reports, contract situations and the asking prices in prospect capital or major league talent.

For now, the focus stays on the field. The Yankees aim to maintain their winning momentum against the Phillies and build a stronger case for October baseball. Injuries have tested the depth chart, yet the club’s recent response suggests a group still capable of competing at a high level.

As the calendar flips toward early August, every available option will come under scrutiny. The next several days will determine whether New York adds external help or continues to ride the current mix of veterans, prospects and fill-ins through the remainder of the regular season.
