The Philadelphia Phillies are in dire need of an outfielder, especially now that Brandon Marsh finds himself mired in an absolutely miserable slump that has caused his OPS to dip below .800.

But will the Phillies actually be able to land someone of significance?

While Byron Buxton and Mike Trout have both been floated as potential options for Philadelphia, neither slugger represents an incredibly realistic target for the squad.

Both players own no-trade clauses, and while Buxton will evidently be alright with waiving it and Trout grew up rooting for the Phillies in southern New Jersey, completing a deal would be easier said than done.

That’s why Philadelphia may have to turn its attention to more pragmatic options, and one name that has surfaced for Philly is San Francisco Giants slugger Jung Hoo Lee.

Lee is slashing .302/.336/.435 with six home runs and 37 RBI this season, making him a natural fit for a Phillies outfield that is starving for a good contact hitter.

The problem? The Giants don’t appear interested in moving him.

While San Francisco is apparently all but guaranteed to ship out Heliot Ramos, it plans to hold on to Lee through the MLB trade deadline, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

This is certainly awful news for Philadelphia, as it further narrows its search for an outfield bat. Plus, the less outfield options that are out there, the more expensive the ones will be who actually are available.

Lee is in the third year of a six-year, $113 million contract, so while his deal isn’t incredibly team-friendly, it would still be palatable enough for a Phillies squad that badly needs bats.

The 27-year-old certainly isn’t a very good defender, but his offense compensate for his lack of a glove.

Perhaps Philadelphia can turn its attention to Ramos, the Giants’ former first-round pick who has been a rather significant disappointment in the Bay.

It should be noted that Ramos is under club control through 2029, so perhaps there could be a match between Philly and San Francisco.
