A Houston-area man faces kidnapping charges after authorities say he took his young nephew from the child’s parents’ wedding reception without their knowledge or consent late last weekend.
The incident unfolded at an event center on Vantage Parkway East, where family and friends had gathered to celebrate the marriage. Relatives were helping watch the 15-month-old boy so the newlyweds could enjoy the festivities, according to investigators.
Around 10:30 p.m., the toddler’s 29-year-old uncle, Michael Brown, drove away with the child in his vehicle. Police said Brown did not use a car seat and appeared to have been drinking.
The boy’s parents grew worried when they could not locate their son. Attempts to reach Brown by phone went unanswered, with calls going straight to voicemail. He was not at his residence when checked, prompting a deeper search by homicide detectives who joined the effort to find the pair.
Deputies responded to the scene shortly after midnight following an “In Progress Life Danger” call. Video footage from the venue confirmed the child had been taken without permission.

By around 4 a.m., detectives located Brown parked along the side of the road at North Paige Lane and Navigation Boulevard, roughly 18 miles from the wedding venue. The child was found unharmed, resting on Brown’s chest as the man slept in the vehicle.
Authorities quickly reunited the toddler with his relieved parents. Brown was taken into custody and charged with kidnapping in connection with the incident.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez highlighted the department’s response in a Facebook post.
“Thanks to the swift actions of our team, the use of technology, and outstanding investigative work, the toddler was located safely within hours and reunited with his parents,” Gonzalez said.
