It has not been an easy season for the Houston Astros and Bleacher Report recently named them the biggest disappointment of the 2024 season so far.
The American League has been largely run by the Houston Astros for the last decade. Ahead of the season, the Astros are penciled in to be playing for the American League Championship.
It is tough to sustain success like the Astros have over the last decade, but they have been able to build around a strong farm system and have plugged in some key pieces around them. It was just last season that the Astros were playing the Texas Rangers in the American League Championship. Still, the other team in Texas came out victorious and ended up winning a World Series.
This season, the Astros were again expected to be an excellent team. With a preseason win total of over 93.5 games, Houston was expected to be right back in the mix as a contender. However, the Astros have been pretty bad this season and are behind the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers in their division.
With high expectations, this season has been a massive disappointment for the Houston Astros. Recently, Bleacher Report named Houston as the biggest disappointment in baseball so far. Here’s what they had to say.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves jostling for the top spot, co-favorites to win the World Series. And then the AL favorite was the Houston Astros, supposed to finish a few games ahead of the Yankees and the Orioles in the race for the AL’s No. 1 seed.
To put it lightly, that’s not the way things have played out.
The poor record for the Astros is pretty surprising considering a lot of their top players are playing well this season. However, that isn’t translating into wins on the field.
The good news for the Houston Astros despite the slow start is that there is still a lot of season to play. With the summer just starting, Houston can make a run, but they must do so quickly if they want to catch the Seattle Mariners or Rangers.
