One NBA writer is proposing that the Los Angeles Lakers acquire Dorian Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets and Marcus Smart from the Memphis Grizzlies.

Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Lakers, Nets and Grizzlies:

Grizzlies get: Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Jaxson Hayes, Harry Giles III, 2029 first-rounder, trade exceptions ($8.3 million, $2.4 million and $1.9 million)

Lakers get: Marcus Smart, Luke Kennard, John Konchar, Xavier Tillman Sr., Dorian Finney-Smith, trade exception ($10.5 million)

Nets get: D’Angelo Russell, Jalen Hood-Schifino, trade exceptions ($14 million, $2 million)

The Lakers are 19-20 on the season. They are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. Since winning the In-Season Tournament in Las Vegas, the Lakers are only 5-11, which is why Pincus believes general manager Rob Pelinka needs to make a trade to save the season.

“In return, the Lakers get one of the better defensive guards in the league in Smart, to complement Austin Reaves in the backcourt,” Pincus wrote in his NBA trade proposal. “The Lakers add two wings shooting roughly 41 percent each this season from three-point range. Finney-Smith gives the team a 6’7″ defender to join holdovers Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish and Max Christie.”

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Marcus Smart, Memphis Grizzlies, Dorian Finney-Smith, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers Updates

The Lakers could start Austin Reaves, Smart, Finney-Smith, LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Smart is one of the best defenders in the NBA, while Finney-Smith is a quality 3-&-D player.

Smart is averaging 14.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.1 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 43.0% from the field, 31.3% from beyond the arc and 76.8% from the free-throw line. He will miss the next six weeks with a serious right ring finger injury, but Pincus still thinks the Lakers should acquire the former Boston Celtics star.

Meanwhile, Finney-Smith is averaging 9.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks while shooting 43.1% from the floor, 40.9% from 3 and 80.0% from the foul line.

The Lakers need to improve their defense. They also need more shooters around LeBron and Davis. Smart and Finney-Smith can help Los Angeles become a contender again since they bring specific skill sets the purple and gold are missing.
